Owner and President: Rod Jacobson
Rod Jacobson is the owner, chief executive officer and state certified license holder of the Island Building Company. He was born in northern Minnesota and grew up on Lake Superior where in addition to acquiring a lifelong love for boats and the water, he learned at a very young age, the carpentry trade from extended family members. Starting at the age of eight, these family members bestowed upon him an active role in the building of fish houses and resort cabins. This early training served him well as he continued to pursue his passion for the construction industry while obtaining degrees from both college and law school, finally serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. It was the Coast Guard who relocated him to New England in the 1970's, where he remained after his service to start a residential construction and remodeling business north of Boston. His focus then, as well as today, was high quality projects with a personal attention to all aspects and details of the construction of these projects. In 1990 he relocated to the west coast of Florida and purchased a home on Casey Key. He briefly worked for another local contractor and in 1992, established the Island Building Company of Sarasota, with the goal of building a premier company with a reputation for quality construction and knowledge of waterfront building.
Project Supervisor: Bob Briggs
Bob Briggs has been with the Company since its inception. His responsibilities include overseeing day to day operations of the projects he is responsible for, ordering materials, scheduling subcontractors and consulting with clients. He grew up in Kansas and has over 29 years of experience in residential construction as a lead carpenter, foreman and supervisor. He is a very skilled trim carpenter and cabinet maker and brings his knowledge of; and eye for, those skills to every project he supervises. His experience has given him a very good knowledge of all phases of the building process. Primarily supervising over projects on Casey Key, Bob has extensive knowledge of costal regulation and building code and enjoys a stellar reputation with our clients. He is an excellent communicator and a valued representative of the Island Building Company who consistently brings in quality projects on time.
Office and Accounting Manager: Mari Haller
Mari Haller has been with The Island Building Company since 2016. She grew up in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago and relocated to Southwest Florida in 1979. She has been involved in Administrative Management for over 25 years. She has worked at a variety of office positions in the industry from accounting and general office management, to overseeing a crew of more than 15 employees . Her expansive background allows her to bring a broad and valuable level of experience to the Island Building Company office. Her responsibilities include the handling of all Accounting, Insurance, Clerical and Human Resource duties as well as ensuring the daily operations at Island Building Company run smoothly. Her attention to detail and first-rate reputation with our clients and subcontractors make her an invaluable representative of the Company.
